Swirled Garlic Herb Cheese (Printer-Friendly)

Fluffy swirled bread with garlic herb butter and mozzarella-cheddar layers, baked to golden perfection.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Dough

01 - 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
03 - 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
04 - 1 teaspoon salt
05 - 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
06 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
07 - 1 large egg

→ Garlic Herb Butter Filling

08 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
09 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
10 - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
11 - 1 teaspoon dried basil
12 - 1/4 teaspoon salt

→ Cheese

13 - 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
14 - 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar or grated Parmesan cheese

# Steps to Make This:

01 - In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg, stirring until a sticky dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
02 - In a small bowl, blend softened butter with minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, and salt until smooth and fragrant.
03 - Once risen, roll the dough into a large rectangle approximately the size of a baking tray. Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the surface. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and cheddar or Parmesan cheese generously on top.
04 - Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log. Slice the log lengthwise into two long strips, then twist the strips together to reveal the cheese and herb layers. Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan or arrange freely on a baking sheet.
05 - Cover the shaped bread and allow it to rest for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake until the loaf is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling, about 30 minutes.
06 - Let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm to enjoy the gooey cheese and buttery garlic herb layers.

# Additional Notes:

01 - For best results, allow the dough to fully rise before shaping to ensure a soft texture. Use room temperature butter for easy spreading. Twist the dough tightly to maintain defined layers during baking.
