Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders (Printer-Friendly)

Tender turkey, bacon, tomatoes, and cheese sauce on sweet rolls make these sliders uniquely flavorful.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Cheese Sauce

01 - 4 tablespoons salted butter
02 - 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
03 - 1 teaspoon kosher salt
04 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
05 - 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
06 - 2 cups whole milk
07 - 1 1/2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese

→ Sliders

08 - 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls, sliced in half lengthwise
09 - 8 ounces sliced deli turkey
10 - 8 slices cooked bacon, chopped
11 - 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
12 - 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

→ Glaze

13 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
14 - 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
15 - 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
16 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
17 - 1/2 teaspoon dried onion flakes
18 - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

# Steps to Make This:

01 - Preheat oven to 375°F. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
02 - In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until smooth. Cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk, bring to a simmer, and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly. Remove from heat and stir in shredded Gruyere until melted. Set aside.
03 - Place bottom halves of Hawaiian rolls, cut side up, in prepared baking dish. Layer sliced turkey evenly over the rolls.
04 - Scatter chopped bacon over turkey layer. Spoon the cheese sauce on top and spread gently to cover evenly.
05 - Top each with tomato slices followed by a sprinkle of shredded Gruyere cheese.
06 - Place roll tops on each slider. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, dried onion flakes, and garlic powder. Brush mixture generously over the tops of the rolls.
07 - Cover the dish loosely with nonstick or lightly sprayed aluminum foil, taking care not to let the foil touch the rolls. Bake for 20 minutes.
08 - Remove foil and bake an additional 5 minutes until tops are golden brown.
09 - Allow sliders to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Using whole milk enriches the creaminess of the cheese sauce; avoid skim milk for best results.
02 - Substitute Gruyere with mozzarella, Swiss, Gouda, or white cheddar if preferred.
03 - Store leftovers covered in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
