Grilled Bacon Cheeseburgers Coca-Cola (Printer-Friendly)

Juicy grilled bacon burgers with sweet Coca-Cola caramelized onions and melted cheddar cheese on brioche buns.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Vegetables

01 - 1 large sweet onion, sliced into ¼ inch rings
02 - 6 green leaf lettuce leaves
03 - 6 tomato slices

→ Meat and Dairy

04 - 907 g (2 lbs) ground beef, 80/20 blend
05 - 6 slices cheddar cheese
06 - 12 slices thick-cut applewood smoked bacon

→ Condiments and Seasonings

07 - 60 ml (¼ cup) olive oil
08 - 1 tablespoon kosher salt, divided
09 - 1 teaspoon black pepper, divided
10 - 180 ml (¾ cup) Coca-Cola
11 - 45 ml (3 tablespoons) barbecue sauce
12 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
13 - 1 teaspoon onion powder

→ Breads

14 - 6 brioche buns, split

# Steps to Make This:

01 - Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion rings, ½ tablespoon kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper; stir to coat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent and soft, about 15 minutes.
02 - Pour Coca-Cola into the skillet with onions. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until onions are caramelized and almost all liquid has evaporated, approximately 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
03 - In a large bowl, combine ground beef, barbecue sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, remaining ½ tablespoon kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper. Mix thoroughly by hand until evenly incorporated.
04 - Divide the meat mixture into six equal portions. Shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Indent the center of each patty slightly to prevent bulging during cooking. Place patties on a tray and set aside until grilling.
05 - Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Grill patties for 5 to 8 minutes on the first side. Flip and continue grilling until internal temperature reaches 74°C (165°F), about 5 to 7 minutes more. Remove from grill and top each with a slice of cheddar cheese to melt.
06 - Grill bacon slices until crisp, about 3 to 5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
07 - Place brioche bun bottoms on plates. Layer with lettuce, tomato slice, a cheese-topped burger patty, two bacon slices broken to fit, and a generous portion of Coca-Cola caramelized onions. Cap with top bun and serve immediately.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Indenting patties helps keep burgers flat and prevents bulging as they cook.
02 - Store cooked ingredients separately in the refrigerator up to 3 days; freeze cooked patties up to 3 months.
03 - Use regular Coca-Cola, not diet, to achieve proper caramelization and flavor in onions.
